Bits and Pieces

There have been a lot of high emotions lately. For starters, med school is hard. All these talented people are used to being at the top of their class, then they come to medical school where everyone was at the top, so now they are "just" average, and it's foreign and uncomfortable. Everyone is trying (rightfully so) to be the very best applicant they can be, so this means volunteer hours and outstanding grades and research papers and leadership positions etc etc etc. Holy stressful! On busy days, Michael is down in his baby pink (my bad) study room in the mornings before I wake up and at nights after I go to sleep. Poor guy. And then he feels bad because he wants to be able to spend time with Lydia and me, but there just aren't enough hours in the day! Michael and I haven't had enough time to just be... silly together. Every time we interact it's with a purpose. Quickly eat dinner while we trade off feeding Lydia. Discuss yesterday's test and the upcoming project. Ask about Lydia's cold and if it's getting any better. Read scriptures and then hustle off to baths and studying and cleaning and paying bills and BAM it's 11pm and I'm heading to bed. We usually have a mini outing on Saturdays (getting churros at Costco or popping in Nordstrom Rack), but day in day out we need more little bits and pieces of pure fun! That's our goal this week :). To be a little sillier and happier and find joy in the small things. I'll let you know how it goes!

On a lighter note, spring!!

Found this lonely guy in the backyard and he made my day!

My favorite new nail polish. Essie's Lounge Lover is the cheeriest coral for April.

Lydia helping fold her laundry. Also I feel like everything in my life is white or pink lately??

Denim on denim on denim.

On Tuesday we drove to campus and met Michael for lunch! This little girl is in love with him. Big smiles everytime they're together :).

Michael cut his (5 inch long) hair last night!! Lookin good babe!

Mom jeans seemed fitting for mom life ;).

Here's to a fun-filled week!

I Got Dressed 06 {Conference and a Coke}

This is probably my most favorite momiform.

High waisted skinnies, black to hide all the baby food and spit up and slight peeing of pants (er...I mean this never happens. what?)

Plain crop tee that's not too cropped to necesitate constant adjusting, but cropped enough to feel kind of current.

On second thought incontinence and trendiness don't really belong in the same post.

Alas...

Fun sandals, big yummy neutral sweater and a large diet coke light ice to solve all your probs.

Are you sick of this blue/grey/rusty/slat wall yet?

I hope not, because this is about the end of my safety zone before I feel too close to people who could see me weilding a self timer and smiling for no one.

Necessary shirt tuck, not to be mistaken for a Michael Jackson move.

Guys can we just pause and look at the technique involved in this jumping picture?

LOL LOL
I'm really going places in life :).

This was right after watching the first session of LDS General Conference with some girlfriends on Saturday! All ze boys had to study for Monday's test, so we had some lady + baby time. Like we always do ;). What a blessing to hear incredibly relevant messages twice a year from our leaders! I'll admit, it was much harder to listen to everything this time with the babe. Bottles, spit up, diaper changes, noisy toys, baby food, more spit up, attempted nap, failed nap - whoa the session's over? So I'm looking forward to reading back through the talks in the upcoming weeks and months. I can't wait to share a few of the things that stood out most to me this conference. Stay tuned! :)

Illegal Walls and Such

So apparently it's illegal to take pictures in front of this wall.

Don't worry, only 2 separate cops and a dog came and told us to move... oops. But then as they were escorting us out of the plaza they each said, "I'm leaving now... I'm walking away..." So they kind of gave us permission? Weirdest 4 minutes ever. But hey! Cool pics!

Having Olivia in town was a perma party. She's the chillest chica I've ever met, but she's always up for adventures. Like finding random cool stores only based on directions from ancient blog posts or spending way too long paper machéing with me. (I still owe you Liv.)

Her one goal the entire trip was to see snow - so wazaam! We called upon the Flurry Fairies and made it happen.

Bagel date! Still on the hunt for an amaze bagel in Salt Lake... any suggestions?

Not on the hunt for bae's though. I mean look at this little hottie!

Lydia loves her Aunt Liv.

Thanks for playing with us! Come back sooooon! Or better yet, I'll come visit you in San Fransisco again ;).

Imaginary Closet

I lost my memory card and some fancy techy cord last week after Easter. I literally dumped out my diaper bag a few times, searched under every mat and seat in my car, excavated the house... the works. After 5 days, I called the battle. Card/cord one. And Michael and I had just talked about how in April our goal is to not spend more than x amount and we really don't have room for unnecesary purchases etc etc, so I felt like April was not on my side since I already needed to make a big(ish) purchase. I drove to the Apple store and was getting Lydia out of her carseat when I saw this little purple pouch under the driver's seat - my cord and card!! And I swear I'd looked there at least twice. Such a blessing! God is definitely trying to help me keep my goal this month, haha. So naturally since I was now at the mall I had to pop in Anthro. This place is also some sort of blessing, but to the fancy run-errands-in-$200-sundresses ladies of the world. To me it is currently a little happy slice of make believe. Oh yes, I can definitely see myself wearing this sequin skirt as I shop at Whole Foods with a bouquet of roses in my cart, that kind of make believe.

Case in point:

Is this skirt not fabulous? When would I wear it? Never. But I can pretend I'm this awesome right?

This little springy number was darling! A couple inches too short, but pockets and pink and poppies and any other good "p" thing I can think of!

Love the concept of this wrap dress. How comfy! Again, a little short (I'm 5'5'' for reference). Note patient Lydia just crawling all over the dirty floor. Model parenting right there ;).

Heart eyes all day for this swingy summery cheery day dress! Dress up with booties or be casual with sandals. Why must ALL cute dresses be short.

Simple ribbed dress. Apparently I was really on a dress kick! Haha. PS Lydia is obsessed with shoelaces as of late? Which made organizing my shoes the other hilarious. She was in h.e.a.v.e.n.

Oh here's not a dress! Also this isn't Anthro, but an equally dreamy Madewell tee. I'd maybe go one size up for a little more flow effect. And I can't decide if blush washes me out or if it works? I need to do one of those professional color matching things again. I did one back in high school and the lady was ADAMANT that navy made me look "dead" (her exact word of choice). So I stayed away from navy for like two years for fear of looking like a walking carcass, and then one day pulled out a navy blouse and thought, hey, this actually looks pretty good on me! And now navy has made it back into regular rotation. (My med school prom dress was navy, see it here.)

Also, hats!!! Why am I loving hats as of late? Possibly it has something to do with the fact that some guy bleached my hair ORANGE and then we fixed it to a terrible yellowish white so now I'm constantly trying to cover it up? Ya I'm actually 100% positive it's that :). Haha. Loving all these playful Anthro hats.

And there you have it! My (huge) recent imaginary closet. And don't worry Michael, I didn't buy one thing! April Goal going strong (as of the 2nd :) ).

I Got Dressed 05

I'll just call it how it was, Thursday stunk.

Lydia slept for all of 3 ½ hours the night before. She was up screaming and nothing would calm her down! I couldn't rock her, couldn't feed her, couldn't cuddle her in our bed, nothing. And she seemed scared, like she had a mini baby nightmare! I hope not. Can babies have nightmares? So then my 2am mind is racing and I'm googling baby nightmares and baby monitor hackers and why is my child sreaming and is a temp of 97.4 too cold.

So lack of sleep stirred with a tablespoon of worry and a pinch of self-pity made me a total grump.  (Apologies for the baking references, I just made muffins.)

And into the sweatpants drawer I did delve!

Black on black on black and no makeup and no shower seemed fitting. Aren't you so glad I documented this for you?? ;)

Superwoman pose, it's casual.

Pockets(!!!)

This is my AHHHH only 6 more hours till bedtime! face. lol.
