Canyon Drive!

Alternate title: Impromptu Photoshoot!

Sunday afternoon we jumped in the car and brought our nifty tripod and decided to snap a few family photos!

BeUTAHful, right? And Sunday drives are the best. No rush, nowhere to be, just the three of us! (3.5 I suppose, as evidenced by my expanding belly, cheeks and thighs... woot woot.)

We drove up the canyon along with EVERYONE ELSE in the state of Utah, haha! It's like the whole valley got home from church and wanted to go take pictures in the mountains or something ;). It was so pretty. And if you look closely you can even see snow in these pics!

Also, I was scouring the interwebs for good maternity jeans that won't break the bank (and I still might splurge on the Madewell maternity jeans... has anyone tried them?), and then ended up finding a pair at DI for $6! And they fit awesome! Love me some good DI finds.

Top: Madewell
Maternity jeans: thrifted!
Shoes: Old Navy
Hat: Free People

Thorns and Roses

Taking advantage of the last of these warmer nights!

I have this bizarre infatuation with my stroller. Michael will tell you that was hands down the baby item I was most excited about. So naturally we had to buy all the nifty extra parts, hence we've had the second seat since Lydia was like 6 months old (and wayyy before we got pregnant again), ha! But it comes in handy during babysitting :).

My favorite little pjs I scored at DI!! (The brand is Baby Gap - I'm sure at least a few years old - for those who asked from my Instagram Story.)

We love watching the med school intramural football games!

City Creek date night :).

Things have been fairly rosy around these parts! I'm trying to soak it all in and savor every happy piece since I know this could change at any moment. But definitely feeling grateful for all the good things going on. Here's the lowdown from the past few weeks!

Thorns:

- Adjusting to having a full-time WALKER! And by full-time I literally mean she does not sit still anymore. (The patient women behind us at Women's Conference can attest to this - bad idea to bring your 1-year-old. NEVER. AGAIN.)

- Our front room blinds are broken so we have almost no natural light upstairs, which is killing me! I very much loathe yellow lights - so much so that for Mothers Day a few years ago in our old apartment Michael switched out all our light bulbs to white lights in the middle of the night! So adorable right?! So since our current lights are as yellow as mustard I am kind of going crazy without functioning blinds.

Roses:

- FALL! I keep saying this, which is annoying I'm sure, but I'm really stoked for fall this year; weather, leaves, clothes, scents - I'm in love!

- Lydia has all of a sudden become this little toddler! Aka life just got a thousand times more fun. We can have little conversations with her, we can play games with her, Michael goes on Daddy-Daughter dates with her every couple weeks, it's the best!

- On a similar thread, Lydia's new thing is to cover her face and play peekaboo with me through the review mirror while I'm driving - melts my heart every time!

- Those nachos. See pictures above. If you are ever at City Creek food court with three or four people, everyone pitch in a few bucks and get the full sized platter of nachos at Red Iguana - totes delish and ENORMOUS. Jalapeños and guac and beans and meat and all sorts of goodness. Michael bought that as his solo dinner before we realized how huge it was. (PSA don't get the red enchiladas - weirdly gross?? Like I don't know how you mess up an enchilada but it was bizarre.)

- Last but not least, I've had a lot of energy back which is SUCH a game changer! And such a blessing that Lydia wasn't this active a few weeks ago when I was on the couch 24/7. Just as she is starting to really sprint everywhere, I'm able to keep up. So helpful.

And that's a wrap!

We No Longer Sit in Carts; Grocery Shopping is Over

I think parenting for me currently consists of this never ending pendulum of emotions.

How quickly I swing from gushy obsessed in love to blisteringly frustrated is pretty impressive.

For instance, this morning at Trader Joe's Lydia started out all sorts of adorable. She pointed at all the pumpkins, blew kisses to strangers, smelled the flowers, and my mama heart beamed with pride and wishful thinking; I officially have the world's greatest kid.

Flash forward five minutes when Lydia refuses to sit in the cart and screams my ears off, running rampant in the store. I attempt to chase her but also grab as much off the shelves as I can so this wasn't a complete waste of time, and I simultaneously assure unsupportive onlookers that I'm sorry she knocked into your cart and I really am watching her and yes she is lively I know.

But then she turns around and looks at me with those huge blue eyes and perfect rosy lips and it's kind of impossible to stay mad for too long.

It's a blessing we have those "oh my goodness she couldn't be any cuter" moments to even out all the "I might lose it in front of all these people" ones! ;)

PS Thank you Trader Joe's for making the fall in me so happy!! Pumpkin everything.

Current Wish List

FALL!!! I am stoked for fall this year for so many reasons. One, Lydia can actually enjoy it! She loves being outside and I think the leaves changing and the crisper air will be fun for her. But more importantly (kidding, sort of) fall means cute clothes! I've decided dressing a bump in fall/winter months will be a BREEZE compared to summer bumpin. That, my friends, stunk. Because really what can you do in the summer except wear the thinnest tee shirts you can find and pretend that jean maternity shorts are actually somewhat flattering (they're not) and just want to die. But fall equals layers!! Leggings, cardigans, cozy sweaters, hats - it all adds up to some pretty awesome maternity looks. Here's a few things I've been eying lately, mostly not maternity but could definitely work, bump or not. (Also I'm not completely sartorially illiterate - these aren't all meant to be worn simultaneously...)

1. Cozy maroon cardigan - I love the look of an oversized open cardi that can go over anything. And this one looks ridiculously comfy!

2. Practically perfect striped tunic - THIS IS LIFE. I kind of need this.

3. Flat felt hat - I'm a little hat obsessed but most of mine are bigger and floppier. I like the short and stiff brim here.

4. MAC Edge to Edge lip liner - So I always thought lip liner was hilariously unnecessary, and maybe it is, but I've started using a mauve one and it really makes my lipstick stay in place. This dusty pink color is so pretty!

5. Ruffle sleeve dress - How adorable is this?? And I like that it's long enough for a bump! Throw on a cardigan and some cute tights and it's winter-worthy.

6. Wine clogs - Clogs have been around for a few years but I've never been brave enough to wear them. Now that they're finally old news I think I could give em a go! And this color is fantastic.

7. H&M maternity jeans - I actually bought a couple pairs of H&M maternity jeans last time around - they were great, just a bit too big now. These are a good price and cute wash.

8. Olive zip up cardigan - Like I mentioned, I'm pretty big cardigan enthusiast. I like this unexpected zipper detail and beautiful color!

Bumpdate: Week 16

Please excuse that disaster of a closet... ^^^
I got smart and shut the door :).

This pregnancy is flying by in comparison. By some standards I'm already 4 months! (But I feel like every website you go on tells it differently... trimesters are all different, months are all different, sheesh. So I'll just stick with 16 weeks ;) .) I think one of the hardest things has been the guilt. I feel so bad that I am not being more hands-on with Lydia! It's interesting how just as she's getting to a hyper-clingy phase I'm getting to the point where I cannot physically let her hold onto my leg all day or hold her all day - ha. I feel like she senses I'm not giving her 100%, so she's wanting more! When I'm doing my makeup she cries at my feet until I pick her up. When I'm cooking dinner she's sitting on my toes and I feel v proud when I don't spill on her head (kidding mom). When I'm at the grocery store she now refuses to sit in the cart in lieu of being held? THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. Hahaha. It's good for me though, testing my brand new parental discipline skills! (JK I have none. Tips??) Kids are so exciting ;). Okay! 16 Week Bumpdate!

How far along: 16 weeks

Fruit size:  Avocado

Weight gain: I'll find out for sure next week but I think 5 pounds total.

Maternity clothes: Pretty much! I officially can't button my jeans so I've been using the belly band and wearing leggings every chance I get. All my maternity clothes from last time around are too big though! (Like size wise - I started out a little thinner this pregnancy.) So I'm on the hunt for some cute maternity jeans. Suggestions??

Sleep: So much better! I really thought I was on the verge of collapsing a few weeks ago, but I'm getting some energy back! At nights I'm kind of restless and have The Weirdest Dreams Ever - like people trying to offer me drugs and goldfish and giraffes in my kitchen? Ha!

Symptoms: Still nauseous, but a lot better! I've gone from constant nausea to just waves every few hours (and then sprints to the toilet, see this post). So thanks to this incident I now proudly sponsor brown paper lunch sacks and keep them in my car 24/7! And if I'm really nervous I shove one in my diaper bag. Leg cramps going strong, so I'm taking magnesium every day and trying to up my water intake and put my legs up when I remember. Maybe the one teeny tiny positive of this pregnancy is I feel like my hair is getting longer? But now I have zits like a 14-year-old so I guess it all evens out somewhere.

Food cravings: Loving caesar salads and eating sugar snap peas by the bagful (and totally soaking in these rare times when I want veggies!!). Also liking pepperoncinis (those neon green wrinkly jalapeño things), beef jerky and sour patch kids.

Food aversions: Still can't do peanut butter. (A few people have asked if I'm not eating nuts then - nuts are fine for me, I don't know what it is but just the pasty peanut butter smell is grossing me out.) But most of the overpowering I-will-throw-up-if-I-see-that aversions are gone! Random things will sound bad or good on different days but... I feel like that's true for anyone, preggo or not haha.

Gender: We will find out in two weeks! Still thinking boy!

Bump: HUGE. I literally look like I did when I was 6 months pregnant with Lydia!! I'm not quite at the point yet where it looks like a cute bump (more like too many un-cute burritos) so I'm still wearing all things flowy. I think I felt a few flutters this week, but it definitely could've just been gas or something ;). Can't wait to start feeling those kicks for real! That makes it seem so much more official to me.

Belly button in or out: In, don't see that changing. Ever. Ha.

Thoughts: I'm so thrilled to be getting out of the house again! I was going a little stir crazy and feeling really guilty for being a lame mom to Lydia. There were a few weeks there when putting on a bra was a big deal for me, not to mention brushing my hair. Happy to report that I have indeed worn bras (um PS my chest region is getting huuuuge already... yikes) and swiped some foundation on my face the last few days! So I think we're on the upswing!

Life Lately

With Michael's schooling, he leaves in the mornings before Lydia wakes up and sometimes doesn't even get home until she's asleep!

So to make up for the little time they have, we meet up for lunch at least once every couple of weeks.

And as you can tell, it is homegirl's favorite part of the day :). She is in love with him. He is fun and giggly and tickly and playful. They are best buds.

Have I already talked about this stuff? Maybe. Probably. You need this.

Six strollers at the farm.

Well this is creepy, but I think one of my favorite things is watching Lydia eat.

It's just so fascinating watching her figure out her new little body!

And thank you Target Man who gave us this sticker. Entertainment for hours.

Mother Goose Club date with Owen :).

And a pot banging party with Lyla!

Closing out with an oldie! Back in AZ in August with my babe of a sister.

State Farm I Mean Fair!

I must have said 30 times, "I'm so excited to be at the State Farm!"

HA. Michael kept making insurance company jokes.

I have never been to a state fair before, so I was stoked! I'm kind of a sucker for things like this so I was literally giddy when I saw the tents and ferris wheel.

For sure one of our favorite parts was the adorable kid section! There were about a dozen stations set up where kids could walk through with their buckets and aprons and pick apples, milk "cows", ride tractors, etc. So cute! And then at the end there was even a little grocery store where the kids could trade in their coupon for a treat! Very well thought out and organized. Thanks nice fair people!

Of course we had to try an obligatory corn dog.

For the recored I took two bites and then baby couldn't handle it. Bummer because it was good!

Maybe the best part of the day was watching Lydia with all of the animals. She's starting to really get into animal noises, and seeing all these real life chickens and cows and pigs we talk about all day was kind of a dream for her! (I imagine ;) .)

She was in love with the lamb. And kept "patting" it (aka smacking it). We are gonna have to do some serious work on being soft for when Baby #2 gets here - HA.

Thanks Utah! Such a fun and unique family outing!
